Acorus Calamus is cultivated for over 4000 years back in Mongolia and Siberia. Then from there, it reached in Europe. The Acorus Calamus roots contain 1-4% of oil, which includes asarone an antibiotic compound that is toxic. Oil of calamus is banned in the US by the FDA. And in other countries too restricted permit.
For cultivation it requires wet soil/ shallow water 10 inch deep with good sunlight. The plants of Acorus are harvested throughout the years except during flowering times. The required amount of rhizome is cut and rest replanted. Its root then dried for decoction and distilled for oil., tinctures, extracts, pastes, and powders.

Uses of Acorus Calamus:-

1:- Acorus Calamus is best in treating gastrointestinal (GI) problems and stomach ulcers.

2:- Stomach inflammation, Intestinal Gas, Loss of Appetite, upset stomach all the stomach related issue this proves beneficial

3:-Externally it is used as rheumatic pain.

4:- It is used as a restorative for the brain and nervous system after a stroke.

5:- It helps control bleeding disorder.

6:-Its oil is used as flavoring liqueurs, vinegar, soft drinks.7:- It is useful in headache.

7;-It increases memory power.

8:- it is beneficial in cough and throat related problems.

How to take Acorus Calamus:-

1:- Its dried root powder can be taken once/twice a day 1-2 pinch with honey/water.

2:- for skin-related issues take 1 teaspoon of vach powder, add water and make a paste and apply on the affected area. Wash after 30 minutes.

3:- Massage VAch oil with a mix of sesame oil will reduce the pain

4:- Decoction/tea/kwath form also it can be taken.

Avoid taking this during pregnancy and lactating period and it should be taken under proper doctor supervision.
