Ever since the coronavirus pandemic took over the world, health experts and researchers have been actively working to find a cure for the virus. However, many people have turned to the centuries-old wisdom of Ayurveda for boosting their immunity to protect against coronavirus. In an effort to tackle this, the Indian health ministry has recommended the use of traditional remedies to tackle the country’s COVID-19 outbreak. Union health minister Harsh Vardhan recently backed the role of Ayurvedic remedies in the prevention and treatment of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and hailed their immunity-boosting properties. But this triggered sharp criticism from the Indian Medical Association (IMA), a group of more than one-quarter of a million modern medicine practitioners.
The government countered the Indian Medical Association’s criticism of the Centre’s Ayush protocol for Covid-19 management, saying the advice was based on Ayurveda and yoga after considering “empirical evidence and biological plausibility” as well as emerging trends from ongoing clinical trials.
