This Genus is only a single species of an evergreen shrub, found in many parts of the world in warm regions. In ancient Egypt castor plant has been cultivated for more than 6000 years for the main source of oil for their lamps and cosmetics. Castor oil plant is full of toxin each part of the plant are poisonous, even seeds too. Its seeds have a necklace like design which looks attractive. Previously in ancient times, it was used for the external purpose only but nowadays as pharma companies are using in medicines so internally also it has a vast scope and use.

It requires drained soil with good sunlight for cultivation. Its seeds are sown best at 21`C. if before sowing the seeds are soaked in water for 24 hours in water germination will be quicker. As the whole plant is toxic but its seed is extremely toxic and seeds are not recommended for eating. It is said that 2 seed can kill a man. The handling of seeds might cause skin irritation or an allergic reaction. Its seeds contain nearly 40-60% oil. This castor oil is safe to use.

Properties:- It has a purgative effect with an unpleasant taste. It pacifies Vata and Kapha.

Purification:- As seeds are highly poisonous so we cannot use it in medicine without purification, it should be fomented in Coconut water for three hours then seeds are washed, dries up, and ready to use for medicinal purpose. These are used to prepare insecticides and pesticides.

Uses:-

1:- Its root, leaves, oils are used externally for Pains
2:-Its seeds are used for birth control.
3:- castor oil massage on hairs helps remove dandruff and hair fall.
4:-Castor oil is massage over the breast of lactating mothers to increase milk flow.
5:- This proves beneficial in urinary tract infections.
6:- Castor seed oil is helpful in worms infection and rheumatism.
7:- Internally for constipation and acute diarrhea due to food poisoning it is used.
8:- In Ayurveda, its oil is also used in the disorder of the nervous system.
9:- Its oil has also other industrial and cosmetic uses as added in soaps, candles, crayons, varnishes, lubricants oil, waterproofing, and also in the food industry to give nutty flavors.
10:- its oil is the best repellent on insects and cockroaches.
11:- After oil, its seed residue is used in fertilizers.
12:- In acne and skin issues its oil proves beneficial.

How to take Castor:-

1:- For constipation take 2-3 teaspoons of castor oil into a glass of warm milk for a week only before sleeping at night.

2:- for increasing appetite castor oil can be taken with ginger water

3:- For muscle pain massage castor oil on the pained area gently.

4:- Its root powder can be consumed in form of tea / Decoction.

Note:-

During pregnancy, it is not recommended to take. And discontinue if feeling stomach cramps and feeling unpleasant. And only recommended 7 days or less for consuming castor oil if need to consume more doctor advice to be taken.
