The Aconitum Genus consists of about 100 species worldwide. Mostly found in temperate regions, grassland, and near water. it also looks rich and attractive in making any border area also known as a border plant. All Aconitums contain the alkaloid aconitine, that is most known for most toxic plant compound. Out of all the species Aconitum Ferox is most deadly in all then Aconitum Napellus Comes which is found mostly in Europe. In the past It was used in making Arrow poison. Several species are used medicinally in various parts of the world. It requires deep-moistured soil in shaded, Aconitum should be sited out to reach of children and animals, because a very small amount can cause poisoning. Aconitum has one of the most demerits which is after 2-3 months the bugs come up in its dried roots.
Parts used:- Roots – These roots (Purified) are processed professionally for use in decoctions, tinctures, and liniments.
Properties:- it has antipyretic, Diaphoretic, Anti-inflammatory, detoxifier, and diuretic properties. It is the most hot and bitter herb and Ayurveda only recommends it using after purification and still in very low dose.
Purification process:- Without purification these roots are very toxic a never recommend intake. It can be purified in two ways.
1:- Roots are tied in a cotton cloth and then dip these roots in cow urine for the next 3 days, and these dipped roots are to be exposed in the sunlight daily for 3 days after exposure wash the roots with fresh water and replace the cow urine with a fresh one. And after the third day it is washed dried and preserved.
2:- Boil the aconitum forex in cow`s/goat milk for 3-4 hours. After heating in milk, wash the roots and preserve the roots.
3:-There is also one unpopular method – Boil vatsanbha in Triphala Decoction for 3-4 hours.
By the above methods the Aconitum Ferox roots get purified.
Uses of Vatsanbha:-
1:- It is beneficier in indigestion
2:- In piles its roots are effective.
3:- In Diarrhea it proves beneficial
4:- In Asthma it is effectively used.
5:- In rheumatism it is beneficial
6:- Insects – Scorpian bites it can be used effectively.
Antidote of Vatsanbha:-
If by unknowingly have taken the unpurified roots then the antidote of above is taken cow`s ghee + Tankan Bhasm or
(borax)
Take care before use:-
Always use Purified Aconitum roots, not recommended for pregnant and lactating mothers, children below the age of 5. Excess intake of purified roots even causes vomiting, paralysis, blindness, and other issues. So it is always recommended to take Vatsanbha after proper Ayurveda Doctor Advice. Self-medication in this is strictly not done. Gloves should be worn when handling the unpurified roots.
